IDYSM: Art or fashion? Which word best describes Golden Goose’s approach to fashion?
GG: Art and Architecture
IDYSM: From the Venetian craftsmanship, to worn appearance and re-purposed materials, when a customer buys a pair of Golden Goose, are they buying more than just a sneaker?
GG: They share a world, a lifestyle, a point of view on the world.
IDYSM: Why don’t many people seem to have heard of the brand? Is there a desire to remain exclusive and hidden?
GG: yes of course! we want to prefer communicating through our products because they convey perfectly our personality and our brand.
IDYSM: Is there such a thing as a typical Golden Goose customer?
GG: The attention to details and passion for art.
IDYSM: Where do you think Golden Goose product sits within the current sneaker climate?
GG: GGD sneaker is a reinterpretation of vintage shoe through new colors, prints and treatments (ok)
IDYSM: Why did you decide to apply your artisan approach to fashion to sneakers?
GG: the craftsmanship is at the root of our brand, all products are the result of a process that still takes place in our Venetian laboratory. For this reason we decided to apply it to the sneakers, which were created after clothing and accessories.
IDYSM: Many people feel certain sneakers are over-saturated, how important do you think individuality is to street fashion?
GG: Individuality is really important: we have always tried to preserve it focusing on customers who do not like to follow the crowd. As the sneakers have approached a wider audience, we always try to preserve the individuality creating an extremely wide variety of models.
IDYSM: With concerns from some about the manufacturing systems employed by certain brands, does your use of Venetian craft and re-purposed materials make a comment about sneaker culture looking to more ethical methods?
GG: there is a close connection between GGDB and suppliers. We always try to fulfill and implement their growth needs. This type of relationship is fundamental to the development of the company!
IDYSM: What does the future hold for Golden Goose?
GG: we hope that GGDB will keep the values of craftsmanship, dedication and passion that has always distinguished the brand.
